Blackpool Promenade
Blackpol Promenade can be divided into 3 distinct areas. North Shore, Central, and South Shore.
North Shore from the North Pier to Bispham along the cliffs past uncle Toms cabin. This is really the most historic part of Blackpool's Promenade as it has changed little since its construction in Victorian times.
Central is between South Pier and North Pier, this has undergone an £80 Million rebuild. This has created a number of headlands and spanish steps from the promenade to the beach.
These headlands are used for various events during the season including the Illuminations Switch On which is on the Tower headland which also contains the Comedy Carpet.
Comedy carpet
The Comedy Carpet is a 2200m2 artwork at the foot of Blackpool Tower featuring songs, jokes and catchphrases of more than 1,000 comedians and comedy writers, the carpet gives visual form to jokes, songs and catchphrases dating from the early days of variety to the present. It contains over 160,000 granite letters embedded into concrete, pushing the boundaries of public art and typography to their limits. You have to wander round it to tryly appreciate this work of art. While you wander you will have a great laugh reading all the jokes and catch phrases.
South Promenade is a beautiful peacful place, it streches from South Pier to Starr Gate. It is a great place to have an evening stroll and look at the art exhibits, From the worlds Biggest Mirror Ball to the wave powererd musical organ.
